What is In Home Care?
In Home Care is a unique child care service that provides flexible quality care for children in the familiar environment of their own home by a registered carer. In Home Care has been established by the Commonwealth Government to provide care for children who may not be able to access mainstream child care. For this reason guidelines have been established as to who is eligible for care:- Rural or remote area
- Non standard hours
- Multiple children under pre-school age
- Seriously ill or disabled parent
- Seriously ill or disabled child
Our Philosophy
We believe in the rights of families to have access to a home based child care service, which is flexible, affordable and easily available. We are committed to providing a service in an environment of mutual respect and responsibility. We recognise the need to be responsive to the diverse child care needs of the community. We acknowledge a duty to enhance the total development of each child.
Role of the Co-ordination unit
The Co-ordination Unit provides a system which links carers and parents, provides support for carers, as well as monitoring the care provided. In Home Care Northern Tasmania supports carers in the 63 telephone region, including city and rural locations. Our role includes: Registering and providing informative orientation sessions for prospective and new carers.
- Visiting carers on a regular basis in their home to monitor and support the provision of quality child care.
- Providing resources, toys and equipment.
- Regular training sessions for both carers and families as well as weekly playgroups during school terms.
- Annual re-registration of carers to ensure that the continually meet the State Home Based Child Care Standards.
- Assisting families to select a suitable care provider for their child
- The payment of Child Care Benefit on behalf of families
