Family Day Care

FDCA logo

Family Day Care is a child care service that provides flexible, quality care for children up to 13 years of age. Care is delivered in a relaxed and friendly home-based setting by registered FDC educators. Small groups of children can interact and learn in a fully supervised environment.

Educators (Carers) are experienced and skilled, providing quality flexible care within their own home. NCN provides ongoing training and all educators are encouraged to gain formal qualifications leading up to 2013.

Our Philosophy

We believe in the rights of families to have access to a home based child care service, which is flexible, affordable and easily available.  We are committed to providing a service in an environment of mutual respect and responsibility.   We recognise the need to be responsive to the diverse child care needs of the community.  We acknowledge a duty to enhance the total development of each child.

Role of the Co-ordination unit

The Co-ordination Unit provides a system which links educators and parents, provides support for educators, as well as monitoring the care provided.  Family Day Care Northern Tasmania supports educators in the 63 telephone region, including city and rural locations.  Our role includes: Registering and providing informative orientation sessions for prospective and new educators.

  • Visiting educators on a regular basis in their home to monitor and support the provision of quality child care.
  • Providing resources, toys and equipment.
  • Regular training sessions for both educators and families as well as weekly playgroups during school terms.
  • Annual re-registration of  educators to ensure that the continually meet the State Home Based Child Care Standards.
  • Assisting families to select a suitable care provider for their child.
  • The payment of Child Care Benefit on behalf of families.
